ECHO nodigt u graag uit om uw excellent allochtoon talent voor te dragen voor de ECHO Award 2010. De uitreiking van de ECHO Award zal in 2010 een zeer bijzondere gebeurtenis zijn omdat wij dan het 10-jarig jubileum van de ECHO Awards vieren. Bovendien zal tijdens deze uitreiking in samenwerking met NOS Nieuws een nieuwe award worden uitgereikt: de NOS Media Award.

De ECHO Award is een landelijke stimuleringsprijs voor allochtoon toptalent in Nederland. Op 22 maart 2010 reiken wij de ECHO Awards voor het 10e achtereenvolgende jaar uit aan twee zich onderscheidende, niet-westerse allochtone studenten uit het hoger onderwijs (één student uit het hoger beroepsonderwijs en één student uit het wetenschappelijk onderwijs). Zij worden beloond met de ECHO Award: een summercourse aan UCLA, the University of California Los Angeles in de Verenigde Staten.

Deze prijs draagt bij aan de behoefte van het onderwijs, de overheid en het bedrijfsleven om al het aanwezige talent de mogelijkheid te bieden zich optimaal te ontwikkelen. Dit komt immers niet alleen ten goede aan de student, maar ook aan de kwaliteit van het onderwijs, de economie en de maatschappij.

De ECHO Award richt de schijnwerpers op de successen van niet-westers allochtoon talent in het hoger onderwijs. Samen met u staat ECHO stil bij het succes van deze studenten maakt dit zichtbaar voor andere delen van de samenleving. Door het uitreiken van de ECHO Award genereren we
positieve aandacht voor individuele successen van allochtone studenten en willen we de ontwikkeling van de winnaars van de ECHO Award stimuleren en versterken.

Voor wie is de ECHO Award 2010?
De ECHO Award is ingesteld om meer kansen te creëren voor talentvolle niet-westerse allochtone studenten die tot de eersten uit hun omgeving behoren die studeren. Onder talentvolle studenten
verstaan we studenten die zich onderscheiden door bovenmatige studieprestaties, grensverleggend vermogen en actieve maatschappelijke betrokkenheid. De ECHO Award is bedoeld voor studenten die
op grond van hun talent, sterke en intrinsieke motivatie, veerkracht en doorzettingsvermogen boven zichzelf zijn uitgestegen. De ECHO Award wordt, als onderdeel van de ECHO Foundation, mede mogelijk gemaakt door het ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap en de partners van de ECHO Foundation; ING, Shell, KPMG, Randstad Nederland, Nuon en de Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

Extra Awards
Zoals in voorgaande jaren worden er in 2010 ook 2 Bèta/techniek Awards en 1 Teaching for Excellence Award uitgereikt. Daarnaast wordt er in 2010 in samenwerking met de NOS een nieuwe award uitgereikt, de NOS Media Award.

Bèta/techniek Awards
In samenwerking met het Platform Bèta Techniek reikt ECHO twee Bèta /techniek Awards uit aan de beste allochtone bètatechnische studenten: de Bèta/techniek Award voor een wo-student en de Bèta/techniek Award voor een hbo-student. Met de uitreiking van deze Awards wil het Platform Bèta Techniek de aandacht vestigen op de noodzaak van meer excellerende, hoogopgeleide afgestudeerden met een bètatechnische studie.

Teaching for Excellence Award
Onder het motto ‘Teaching for Excellence’ reikt ECHO in samenwerking met het ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap de ‘Teaching for Excellence Award’ uit aan een allochtoon toptalent van een pabo of lerarenopleiding. Met de uitreiking van de ‘Teaching for Excellence Award’ vragen wij aandacht voor het belang van meer allochtoon onderwijzend personeel.

NOS Media Award

Op initiatief van NOS Nieuws wordt in 2010 voor het eerst de NOS Media Award uitgereikt. Het hoofddoel van deze Award is om excellent allochtoon talent uit het hbo of  uit het wo met kwaliteiten voor het vak journalistiek onder de aandacht te brengen. Een tweede doel is aankomend excellent allochtoon talent te stimuleren bewust te kiezen voor het vak journalistiek. Let op: de voordrachten voor deze award zijn niet beperkt tot alleen journalistieke studies, maar zijn studiebreed en kunnen vanuit alle studierichtingen worden aangedragen. De NOS Media Award wordt uitgereikt aan een excellente allochtone hbo-student of wo-student.

De winnaars van alle extra Awards zullen ook een summercourse gaan volgen aan het prestigieuze UCLA. Daarnaast zullen zij een belangrijke ambassadeursfunctie vervullen voor jongeren die voor keuzes in hun studieloopbaan staan, door te participeren in het Ambassadeursnetwerk-ECHO.

Voordrachten
Het aantal voordrachten vanuit universiteiten en hogescholen neemt tot ons groot plezier jaarlijks toe. Voor 2010 willen we alle hogescholen en universiteiten de kans geven om per Award (de ECHO Award, de Bèta/techniek Award, de NOS Media Award en de Teaching for Excellence Award maximaal drie studenten voor te dragen. De voordrachten moeten uiterlijk 5 februari 2010 schriftelijk bij ECHO binnen zijn en worden beoordeeld door een deskundige, onafhankelijke jury.

ECHO invites you to nominate your excelling migrant talent for the ECHO Award 2010. The presentation of the ECHO Award in 2010 is a special occasion because of the 10 year anniversary celebration of the ECHO Awards. Besides that, ECHO and NOS News will also present a new Award: the NOS Media Award.

The ECHO Award is a national encouragement prize for excelling migrant talent in the Netherlands. On March 22nd, 2010 we’re presenting the ECHO Awards for the 10th time to two distinctive, non-western migrant students in higher education. They are rewarded with the ECHO Award: a summer course at UCLA, the University of California Los Angeles in the United States.

This award contributes to the needs of education, government and corporate industry to offer the opportunity to all these talented individuals to develop themselves as much as possible. This will not only benefit the students, but also the quality of education, the economy and society.

The ECHO Award focuses on the successes of non-western migrant talent in higher education. Together with you, ECHO celebrates the success of these students and makes it visible to other parts of society. By awarding the ECHO Award we hope to generate positive attention to individual achievements of migrant students and to stimulate and strengthen the development of the winners of the ECHO Award.

For whom is the ECHO Award in 2010?
The ECHO Award was established to expand opportunities for talented non-western migrant students who where the first within their families to enter higher education. By talented students we mean students who distinguish themselves by excelling academic performance, by looking beyond borders and by active social engagement. The ECHO Award is for students who have risen above themselves because of their talent, and strong intrinsic motivation, resilience and perseverance. The ECHO Award, as part of the ECHO Foundation, is made possible by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the partners of the ECHO Foundation, ING, Shell, KPMG, Randstad Netherlands, Nuon and Dutch Railways.

Extra Awards
As in previous years 2 Beta Science Awards and 1 Teaching for Excellence Award will be presented. In addition a new award will be presented in collaboration with NOS News: the NOS Media Award.

STEM Awards
In collaboration with Platform Beta Techniek, ECHO presents two STEM Awards, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), to the best migrant STEM students: the STEM award for a student at a university for professional education the STEM award for a student at a research university. With the presentation of these awards the Platform Beta Techniek wants to emphasize the need for greater excelling and highly qualified graduates in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

 

Teaching for Excellence Award
ECHO presents the "Teaching for Excellence" award in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and is awarded to an excelling migrant student in Teacher Education. With the presentation of the "Teaching Excellence Award we want to call attention to the importance of more migrant teachers.

NOS Media Award
Initiated by NOS News, ECHO and NOS News will present the first NOS Media Award in 2010. The main purpose of this award is to raise awareness on excelling migrant talent in higher education with the qualities and capabilities for the journalism profession. With the NOS Media Award, ECHO and NOS News also hope to encourage upcoming talents from ethnic minorities to consciously choose a profession in journalism. Please note: Nominations for this award are not limited only to journalism studies, all students from all disciplines qualify if they have aspirations for working in journalism. The NOS Media Award is awarded to an excelling migrant student at a university for professional education or a research university.

 

All winners will follow a summer course at the prestigious UCLA. In addition, they will participate in the ECHO Ambassador Network and will play an important role for young people who face choices in their studies.

Nominations
The number of nominations from universities and colleges is increasing every year. For 2010, we want to offer all colleges and universities the opportunity to nominate up to three students for each Award (the ECHO Award, the STEM Award, the NOS Media Award and the Teaching for Excellence Award). Nominations must be submitted by February 5th, 2010 and are reviewed by an independent expert panel.
