Welkom bij ECHO, een landelijk expertisecentrum dat werkt aan de implementatie en uitvoering van diversiteitsbeleid van onderwijsinstellingen, overheidsinstanties en bedrijven door training, advies en projectmanagement. Vanuit onze visie is het diversiteitsbeleid van een organisatie of instelling een bewuste keuze voor het creëren van condities waarin elke student en medewerker zijn of haar talent ten volle kan ontplooien. Daarbij gaat ECHO ervan uit dat het succes van een succesvolle deelname van allochtonen vooral gezocht moet worden in de kracht van allochtone jongeren zelf en de gemeenschappen en subculturen die zij vertegenwoordigen. Wij zijn een ‘social justice driven’ organisatie met een maatschappelijke opdracht. Dit neemt niet weg dat onze maatschappelijke opdracht ook als businesscase gepositioneerd kan worden. Deze opdracht voeren wij uit door als zakelijke aanbieder van producten en diensten te opereren. Wij onderscheiden ons daarbij niet alleen door wat we aanbieden maar vooral waarom en hoe we bepaalde diensten en producten positioneren en aanbieden:
- Nieuw perspectief op diversiteit: ECHO biedt een nieuw perspectief op diversiteit door iedereen te maken heeft met diversiteit zelf aan het woord te laten. Het zichtbaar maken van succes en ontwikkeling speelt hierbij een hele belangrijke rol.
- Breed netwerk: ECHO beschikt over en onderhoudt een breed nationaal en internationaal netwerk en beweegt zich dus zowel op nationaal als globaal niveau. Daardoor beschikt ECHO over kennis en expertise van culturele diversiteit vanuit een brede context. Daarbij kiest ECHO voor de benadering van het thema vanuit een positieve insteek.
- Persoonlijke begeleiding: Omdat ECHO haar contacten waardeert en koestert, besteden wij veel aandacht aan persoonlijke begeleiding. Hierbij zien wij laagdrempelige, deskundige, vraaggerichte en persoonlijke begeleiding als basis voor een vruchtbare samenwerking.
- Productontwikkeling: ECHO levert niet alleen diensten op vraag, maar biedt ook zelf producten aan. De producten zijn het resultaat van een constante kennisuitwisseling die leidt tot vertaling van bestaande producten naar de Nederlandse context of geheel nieuwe producten die ECHO zelf ontwikkelt. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn de ECHO Studiereizen en de ECHO Award, maar ook de instrumenten die ECHO ontwikkeld heeft en die bijdragen aan een actief diversiteitsbeleid waarin de integratie van zelfontdekking en ik-versterking van leerlingen/studenten in het onderwijs centraal staan. Zo heeft ECHO een aantal producten ontwikkeld die dit proces ondersteunen: aspiratieworkshops, het ‘crossing borders’ curriculum (writing class) en het traject ‘Kapitaliseren van je culturele identiteit’.
- Vernieuwing in denken en doen: ECHO probeert in alles wat zij doet bewustwording te creëren en vernieuwing door te voeren in denken en doen. Dit omdat wij geloven dat bewustwording een belangrijke randvoorwaarde is voor het succesvol implementeren en vernieuwen van diversiteit in beleid en praktijk.
De ECHO Foundation
De ECHO Foundation is een project van ECHO en heeft onder andere als speerpunt het creëren van kansen voor talentontwikkeling en voor maatschappelijke activiteiten in relatie tot het onderwijs en de aansluiting op de arbeidsmarkt. De ECHO Foundation krijgt sinds de lancering in 2006 een groeiende ‘erkenning’ en ‘herkenning’ als landelijk initiatief waaraan excellente allochtone studenten, pasafgestudeerden en professionals zich verbinden. Zij combineren het succesvol doorlopen van hun studie met een maatschappelijke actieve betrokkenheid.
De ECHO Foundation biedt de mogelijkheid om vanuit het hoger onderwijs kritische massa aan excellent allochtoon talent te genereren. Om zodoende de samenleving voor te bereiden op een nieuwe, verrijkte generatie van potentiële bestuurders, politici, kenniswerkers en 'captains of industry'. Hoofddoel van de ECHO Foundation is het structureel vergroten van de kweekvijver van excellent allochtoon talent door middel van de ECHO Award, het Ambassadeursnetwerk-ECHO en de ECHO Foundation beurzen. Op verschillende onderdelen van de ECHO Foundation verlenen onder andere hogescholen, universiteiten, excellent allochtoon talent en werkgevers uit de private en publieke sector hun medewerking.
Om in de toekomst samen met onze ECHO Ambassadeurs structureel meer onderwijs-maatschappelijke initiatieven te ondernemen zijn we op zoek naar ‘Vrienden’ die geloven in de kracht, de kennis en de onbegrensde mogelijkheden van de ECHO Foundation. Welcome to ECHO, a national center of expertise working on the implementation and execution of diversity policies of educational offices, government offices and corporate businesses through training, consulting and project management. We believe the diversity policies of an organization or institution reflect a conscious decision to create conditions where every student and/or employee can fully develop his or her talents.

In this ECHO believes that successful participation of migrants must be sought mainly in the capacities and abilities of young people and in the migrant communities and subcultures they represent. We are a social justice driven organization with a social mission. However our social contract can also be positioned as a business case. We carry out this task as a provider of business products and services. We distinguish ourselves not only by what we offer but especially by why and how we offer and position certain services and products:
- New perspective on diversity: ECHO provides a new perspective on diversity by letting anyone and everyone dealing with diversity show their perspective on diversity and all issues related to diversity. In this new perspective we emphasize the importance of showing success and development.
- Broad Network: ECHO has and maintains an extensive national and international network and moves within both national and global levels. Because of our broad network ECHO has gathered knowledge and experience of and with cultural diversity in a broad context. ECHO chooses to approach this theme from a positive angle.
- Personal coaching: because ECHO appreciates and cherishes her relations, we put a lot of effort into personal coaching. In this we believe in an accessible, demand-oriented and personal coaching as a basis for a successful cooperation.
- Product development: ECHO provides services not only on demand, but also develops its own products. The products are the result of a constant exchange of knowledge that leads to translation of existing products to the Dutch context or completely new products ECHO itself has developed. Examples are the ECHO Study Tours and the ECHO Award, but also the tools that ECHO has developed and which contribute to an active diversity policy which revolves around integration of self-discovery and empowerment of students in education. A number of products developed by ECHO support this process such as: aspiration workshops, the 'crossing borders' curriculum (writing class) and the project "capitalizing your cultural identity".
- Innovation in thinking and doing: In everything ECHO does, we aspire to raise awareness and to implement innovation in thinking and doing in, because we believe that awareness is an important precondition for successful implementation and renewal of diversity in policy and practice.
The ECHO Foundation is a project by ECHO that wants to create opportunities for talent development and social activities in relation to education and to the labour market. Since its launch in 2006 the ECHO Foundation has gradually received recognition as a national initiative that binds outstanding migrant students and young professionals. They combine the successful completion of their studies with an active social engagement.
The ECHO Foundation provides the opportunity to generate a critical mass of excelling migrant talent from higher education This in order to prepare society for a new, enriched generation of potential presidents, politicians and captains of industry. The main objective of the ECHO Foundation is to structurally enhance the breeding ground of excelling talents of ethnic minorities through the ECHO Award, the ECHO Ambassador Network and ECHO Foundation scholarships. In various parts of the ECHO Foundation colleges, universities, excelling migrant talent and employers in the private and public sectors cooperate.
